Tales from the Caves - Palaeo Podcast to be Recorded in Naracoorte
The 'Palaeo Jam' palaeontology podcast is on the road to Naracoorte, and you’re invited!
Members of the local community are both invited to be members of the audience and to share their stories during the live recordings.
The event will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday August 3rd in the Wonambi Gallery in the Naracoorte Town Hall and has been made possible through the support of National Science Week, Naracoorte Lucindale Council, and the World Heritage-listed Naracoorte Caves National Park.
'Palaeo Jam' is hosted by Michael Mills - also known as his alter ego and regular Naracoorte visitor, the singing palaeontologist Professor Flint.
Panellists for the event will include past and existing staff from the Naracoorte Caves and University of Adelaide researchers.
However, as Michael notes: “We don’t just want to be telling the stories of those who work or study in the Caves. We want to be listening to stories from the community about their experiences, and sharing them through Palaeo Jam.”
If you are someone, or you know someone who has a cool story to tell, we want to hear it! First up, we’re asking people to give us some information about their story of the Naracoorte Caves in 50 words or less, in advance of the event, for the opportunity to be a part of the podcast recording, and win some great prizes. Notably, the Naracoorte Caves have already featured in a couple of past episodes of 'Palaeo Jam'. One was recorded with Professor Rod Wells in the very spot he’d sat when discovering the fossil bed in Victoria Cave more than 50 years before.
Another was recorded with Dr Liz Reed in Blanche Cave, and explored how caves are not just places where fossils are found, but are living ecosystems. The 'Palaeo Jam' website can be found at https://palaeojam.podbean.com/
