Mayor's Christmas Message

As we rapidly move towards 2023, we all need to take a moment to reflect on the year that has been.

Once again bushfires started our year, with the Coles fire in the Callendale district. As is the case when disaster strikes, the community of the South East comes together and helps in any way they can. The Lucindale community is once again very grateful to the wider community for their assistance both during and in the days and weeks which followed. On Friday 21st January, Louise Hincks was killed by a falling tree. I was in the Lucindale Control Centre when this tragic news came in. The instantaneous affect it had on those around me was profound. The loss of a friend and fellow firefighter on the job is not one that we come to expect, although we silently know this can happen. I, along with you all, would like to thank all our volunteers in all their varying capacities, for what they do, to make our community a great place to live and be safe. Thank you.

During the period leading up to my election as Mayor, I spent a great deal of time getting to know this region and the community which I now serve. I have certainly gained a greater understanding and respect for the enormous diversity we have throughout our region and the wants and aspirations of our community members.

As I grow into this role of community leader, I understand the need for greater communication by us all, and so it is during this Christmas/New year period, I encourage you to take the time to say “Good day” and engage with our fellow man and enjoy the moment that it may bring.

May you all have a wonderful Christmas and let’s all look forward to a safe and prosperous New Year.

Mayor Patrick Ross,

Naracoorte Lucindale Council.
