South Australia's Week of Ageing Well: Spotlight on Naracoorte Library + Town Hall where every week celebrates living and ageing well
South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well on October 1-7 is the perfect time to highlight the many activities and events constantly on offer in the Naracoorte Library + Town Hall precinct that celebrate living and ageing well.
The precinct in the heart of the Naracoorte Lucindale Council area has become a much-loved hub for people of all ages to connect with each other and have conversations on a daily basis.
Regular weekly activities that support community members to live happy and meaningful lives include:
- The hugely popular knitting and crochet group which comes together in the Library every Tuesday at 9am-noon;
- The appropriately named “chats group” which meets every Wednesday at 10am-noon;
- Digital literacy sessions which are offered by appointment every Thursday afternoon between 2pm and 5pm.
If an organised activity isn’t for you, you can still connect and engage by popping in any time and pulling up a chair at a table, booth or computer to read a newspaper or magazine, do an ancestry search, or help put together the final pieces in a jigsaw puzzle.
Community groups also meet regularly in the Library and supporting organisations frequently host information sessions highlighting the roles we all play in supporting each other to live and age well.
You can also pick up free resources produced by Naracoorte Lucindale Council when you’re next in the Library to help you stay healthy and active including the:
- Naracoorte Trails pocket map so you can discover and walk our picturesque local trails;
- Art Trail pocket map so you can walk, ride or drive our area taking in our incredible array of public art.
Shortly after South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well, the Naracoorte Area Health Advisory Committee invites you to join the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and representatives from Services Australia, Care Finder and the Aged Rights Advocacy Service for information sessions in the Naracoorte Town Hall on Thursday 16 October on Commonwealth funded aged care services, what they are and how to find them.
The sessions will be held in the Supper Room at 10-11.30am and 6-7.30pm and representatives will talk participants through a range of aged care services, the assessment process and finding services that meet your needs. No registrations are required and light refreshments will be provided.
Naracoorte Lucindale Mayor Patrick Ross said South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well highlighted the undeniable value of older people in our community.
“Ageing well in South Australia means staying connected, remaining active, and understanding that everyone experiences ageing differently.
“The Naracoorte Library + Town Hall is just one shining example of how Naracoorte Lucindale Council is continuing to strengthen our inclusive community that values older people, embraces diversity and improves access to services.”
