The beautiful town of Naracoorte is home to a vibrant and thriving rural economy, boasting enormous community pride. As the retail hub of the district, Naracoorte offers a wide range of shopping, dining, accommodation and recreation experiences.
The Taste the Limestone Coast Festival, held annually over the first weekend in February, brings people to Naracoorte to experience the region’s food and wine. It also incorporates the Naracoorte Cup races, music, golf and other entertainment: an excellent weekend with something for all ages and interests.
The Naracoorte Swap Meet in May is one of the largest swap meets in country South Australia and offers enthusiasts the chance to wade through rows of vintage machinery, old tools and collectables or set up a site to sell your own wares.
The Naracoorte Regional Livestock Exchange (or ‘saleyards’ as it is commonly known), located on Wimmera Highway, is the premier livestock selling facility in the Limestone Coast. Annual throughput is around 100,000 cattle, 400,000 sheep and lambs. Cattle and sheep markets are held every Tuesday commencing at 9.00am. Additional sales are held on Fridays during peak periods (usually October to January). Visitors are welcome to experience the unique excitement and sounds of sale day and meet some of the local farmers and stock agents.
The Naracoorte Public Library, as well as offering items for loan, newspapers and magazines for reading on-site, photocopying and other services, also provides free wireless internet access and has three computers available for the public to use (bookings are required).
