Frances, 40 kilometres north east of Naracoorte, was one of the first agricultural subdivisions in the district and today it remains a thriving rural community.
Thousands descend on the town for three days every February to enjoy and participate in the annual Frances Folk Gathering. This unique, interactive event features music awards, workshops, song writing, dancing and poetry; the focus isn’t only on viewing the performances, everybody is encouraged to join in. It’s worth planning a visit to the region when this event is on.
The historic Frances Hotel is the epicentre of the Folk Gathering and is a good place to stop for a drink and a meal with the friendly locals any time of year.
